Guiding Light CDC was organized in 1998 and chartered as a non-profit in 2000 by concerned residents interested in restoring their neighborhood by providing home owner opportunities for residents in the Third Ward community.

Guiding Light CDC's mission is "to rekindle hope in the Third Ward neighborhood's future, by restoring conventional and local investments in the community by working with Third Ward's community organizations; whereby leaving behind empowered and self-reliant residents."

The CDC is committed to development of single-family affordable housing or multi-family residential units. Currently Guiding Light CDC has completed five homes in the Third Ward area with one additional home under construction. They have acquired two acres tract of land to construct approximately seventeen homes in the South Park area of Houston, Texas.
