Founded in 1990 by Rev. William A. Lawson and Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza, the Neighborhood Recovery CDC was created to address, through positive and affirmative steps, the needs of the community. Through its efforts, independently and/or through collaborations, the CDC works in the areas of housing developments, community revitalization, economic development and education. Neighborhood Recovery CDC's mission is to: provide opportunities for development, housing, business and economic enterprise; improve public education; improve quality of life; increase community investment and community and social services. At the base of all that they do is the empowerment of the communities they serve. Since its founding, the Neighborhood Recovery CDC has been involved in the provision of the 192-unit NUBIA Square Apartment complex. NUBIA is the result of a massive revitalization and rehabilitation effort centered in the Third Ward area of Houston, Texas. Through a joint venture called the Renaissance Cooperative, the Neighborhood Recovery CDC has developed the Renaissance Center, a 90,000 square foot retail center anchored by a grocery store - the first of its type in Texas developed by a community-based organization. This project represents the collaboration of many facets of Houston's for-profit and non-profit business communities. Contact the Neighborhood Recovery CDC for further information and additional services offered or visit their website by clicking on the "Web" button.
