Founded in 1993, New Hope Housing, Inc. is an independent non-profit organization established to offer quality, affordable single room occupancy (SRO) housing to adults who live singly on extremely low incomes. New Hope received its original vision and impetus from the people of Christ Church Cathedral-Episcopal in Harris County, Houston, Texas. New Hope Housing, Inc. is widely recognized as having developed the model for affordable single room occupancy housing in the State of Texas. They are an award-winning organization pioneering the effort to build supportive affordable SRO housing in neighborhoods. Through its SRO locations, New Hope Housing: - Offers low-cost housing to adults who live singly on extremely low incomes.
- Provides each resident an efficiency apartment with private bath, microwave, and small refrigerator, and the use of attractive communal living areas and gardens.
- Incorporates a Resident Services Program that includes emergency loan funds, transportation in New Hope's van for medical and other appointments, holiday celebrations and community social events, life skills training, and access to a variety of social services.
New Hope Housing's current active projects include the Canal Street Apartments with 133 efficiency units in the Second Ward/East End of Houston, Texas; the Hamilton Residence with 129 units near the Downtown Houston area; and the 1414 Congress SRO which offers HUD subsidized rental supports on a sliding scale.
