Who We Are
The CDC Association of Greater Houston was founded in 1996 as a membership organization to benefit low-income families and individuals by promoting affordable housing and economic development. The CDC Association of Greater Houston is the only local membership-trade association for community development corporations engaged in the economic revitalization of distressed communities in the area. CDC Association members engage in activities ranging from housing, commercial development, employment training, job creation, business expansion, business startup, micro-business enterprises, and human support services. Today, the CDC Association has 85 members, including 32 community development corporations and 18 associate members such as CHODs, banks, corporations, TA providers, faith-based groups, universities, local governments, developers, and individuals. What CDCs Do
To date, community development corporations in Houston have developed over 544 affordable single-family homes, with 492 more underway; 2,704 affordable apartments; and 243,944 square feet of commercial and community space. The total value of CDC development in Houston is over $146 million. Our members have positively impacted over 49 communities in the Greater Houston area. CDCs work in some of Houston's most blighted neighborhoods including Fifth Ward, Third Ward, Sunnyside, and Acres Homes.
